I do have to say though that the first book is probably my least favorite out of the entire series.
He says the first book is his least favorite in the series because it has a slow start and the first dungeon floor isn't very interesting, but he still praises how it blends comedy with real horror and sets up the world well.

By the end of the book I was way more invested than I expected to be. I was having way more fun than I expected.
The reviewer expected a cringe slapstick comedy but instead found a fun, well-built lit RPG carried by Carl's strong narrative voice. He had real complaints about the achievement jokes and Donut's early annoying voice, but overall had a great time and was impressed by the world building.
